Palm Oil Free for the BBC - day 17
Updated: Feb 7, 2018
Since my #palmoilfree journey began at the start of the year, I've done a lot of research, spoken to a lot of people about it and read some difficult facts about the disruption caused by palm oil plantations. Since then I've switched to different brands, boycotted companies who have failed to avoid palm oil or failed to choose sustainable palm oil. I've chosen to use products from companies who have an ethical ethos and can't tell you how delighted I am that they exist. Here are my favourites so far:
So what difference have I found using products that don't contain palm oil? Erm, none! If anything, they actually work better and I feel a lot happier knowing that no Orangutan has been murdered or dragged away from its habitat, purely so we can use the Palm tree. My skin feels great after using PHB Ethical products, the mascara is wonderful and doesn't sting my eyes and I love using products from a company that doesn't want to destroy the world in the process. I've found it quite hard to find companies who are cruelty free and don't use palm oil but PHB seems to tick all the boxes. If you haven't heard of them, PHB Ethical Beauty is a pioneering British family business with a revolutionary range of award winning ethical beauty products. Home to the world's largest range of Natural, Vegan, Cruelty Free & Halal Certified beauty products. Their skin, hair & body care products are handmade in the UK and they DO NOT test on animals. They are also palm oil free!

I'm also loving Delphis Eco who are the UK's 1st EU Ecolabel accredited manufacturer of green cleaning products. Made in Britain. They are palm oil free, and are striving for a greener planet. I've been using their washing powder and LOVE it! You can find it here and need just a very small amount. It smells very fresh and delicate and is gentle on sensitive skin.
I also have discovered Greenfrog Botanic founded by Nick and his wife Julie. They knew that there was something special about soapberries, and wanted to give everyone the chance to experience their luxurious benefits. They began work with a small Indian factory in Shimla, Andra Pradesh (India’s most environmentally conscious state) and then eventually made the first full production range in the foothills of the Himayalas. As soon as the ranges arrived in Hove, East Sussex, UK, Greenfrog Botanic started and sold this range quite successfully via wholesale and independent health stores.
Greenfrog Botanic became popular, and stocks began to run low, so Nick and Julie decided to move production to the UK. After a long search to find the right manufacturing partner (one who would keep our products at a low cost and maintain high quality botanical organic ingredients), Greenfrog Botanic production in the UK began and has been made fruitfully here ever since. I love the name and cant stop thinking about it everytime I run water down the drain. I love how Nick came up with the brand name “Greenfrog Botanic”. Greenfrog is loosely based on the way frogs drink water, by absorbing it through their skin and therefore needing super clean water to not absorb lots of chemicals. Of course it is easy to forget that everything we send through our shower drains ends up somewhere, so he wanted to have a product that would be completely safe if it ever ended up somewhere animals drink from – as well as being all the more gentle for our skin too. Botanic was then added to the brand name to emphasize the use of plants in our product, a more sustainable and less cruel alternative to unnecessary animal testing or animal-derived products.
At the end of the day they want a product that is good for humans and good for the planet because they saw no reason to do anything less, so all the benefits to our skin with none of the drawbacks to the environment around us, what is not to like.
So, a big shout out to all those who are doing their bit to make sure the planet that our children's children will be living on, is a green sustainable happy one
